Vita Antoni Tapies

1923 Born in Barcelona, Catalonia
1934 First attempts of drawing and painting; first contact with contemporary art and literature by reading Catalan magazines
1943 Studies law at the University in Barcelona, but drops out in 1946.
1947 First exhibition at the "October Salon" in Barcelona
1950 First solo exhibition in Barcelona. A scholarship allows Tapies a one-year stay in Paris.
1952 Participation in the XXVI. Biennale in Venice
1959 Tàpies represents Spain at the "documenta II" in Kassel.
1963 Moves to "Calle Zaragoza", Barcelona
1968 Designs sheets painted with tusche as curtains for the windows of the Capuchin monastery in Sion.
1979 Appointment as member of the "Akademie der Künste", Berlin
1987 Foundation of the "Fundacio Antoni Tàpies" in Barcelona
1990 Opening of the "Fundacio Antoni Tàpies" in Barcelona
2000 Retrospective at the "Museo Nacional Centro Sofia", Madrid, after that at the "Haus der Kunst", Munich
2012 Deceased in Barcelona
