Vita Andy Warhol

1928 Born in Pittsburgh/Pennsylvania as Andrew Warhola
1945-
1949
Studies at the „Carnegie-Institute of Technology“ in Pittsburgh.
1949 Move to New York. He calls himself Andy Warhol. He immediately finds work as a commercial artist.
1952 First solo exhibition
1960 Warhol turn his attention towards painting: First paintings with comic-strip figures, also the first advertisement and Coca-Cola images.
1962 Warhols big series of pictures develop: Dance diagrams, Do-it-yourself pictures, Campbell’s soup cans, star portraits of amongst others Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. As of August Warhol works with the screen print.
1963 Warhols studio becomes known under the name of „the Factory". This art factory is completely decorated with silver color and silver foil. Since then Warhol wears a silver colored wig, which becomes his distinctive trademark. Purchase of a 16-mm camera and first films. More than 70 films emerge during the following years.
1968 On June 3, 1968 Warhol is shot down in the „Factory“ by Valery Solanas, a militant feminist, and critically wounded. He spends two months in hospital.
1972-
1975
Warhol once again turns his attention towards painting.
Since
1972
Warhol works on the Mao portraits. From now on he takes on portrait orders of famous and rich contemporaries on a regular basis.
1980-
1986
During the 80s extended travels amongst others to Düsseldorf, Paris, Stuttgart, Bonn, Munich, Vienna. First portraits of Joseph Beuys. In Cologne his Cathedral portraits with diamond dust are shown.
