India: Child home in Bhopal

At and around the railway station of Bhopal, capital of the federal state of Madhya Pradesh, live more than 300 street children who hope for alms of the travellers and food rubbish to pull through. The association Nitya Seva is looking after this marginal group for over 10 years and maintains 2 child homes with a total of 185 children, 36 of them are complete orphans. 165 children visit public or private schools as well as 5 boys a university. For the remaining children it is not possible to visit a school due to a physical or a spiritually impediment. The care of the children and facilities is done by more than 30 employees. The costs per child and day amount to approx. 1.50€.
