India: School for poor children in Varanasi

Many children in India have no possibility to get a school education, because Indian schools are subject to charges and, besides, the acquisition of school books, educational material, school uniforms and shoes is too expensive for theirs families. However, someone who has not learned to read and write will never have a chance of a better life and still has to fight on the street for the daily survival. The association Learn for Life maintains and pursues a school in the old town of Varanasi. In 2 open rooms, with a corrugated sheet roof, at the moment approx. 90 children are taught. The costs per child and year are 300€ for 2 meals per day, training aids, everyday lessons, school uniform and the medical care for a child and its family.
